Full-Frame Bodies Compared

The same six specification lines for three current full-frame bodies, each figure traced to the page it was read from.

The Alpha 9 III carries a global shutter full-frame sensor; the page for ILCE9M3B reports 120 fps with full AF/AE tracking and a maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 second.

The Alpha 1 is built around a 50.1 MP full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with integral memory, delivered with the BIONZ XR processing engine.

The Alpha 7 IV uses a 33 MP sensor and shoots at 10 fps; Sony's technical data for ILCE-7M4 lists 35.9 × 23.9 mm, 34.1 MP and 14-bit RAW.

Video lines differ too: the Alpha 9 III records 4K up to 120p at 10-bit 4:2:2 internally, with S-Log3 and S-Cinetone, and 16-bit RAW over HDMI to a compatible recorder.

Stabilization on the Alpha 9 III reaches about 8 stops to CIPA depending on lens and conditions; the other two bodies were not quoted on the pages fetched here.

Where a cell reads not listed, the figure was absent from the source rather than zero; the read-out question behind the first row is covered on the global shutter page.

  • Sensor type and resolution, in mm and megapixels
  • Continuous burst, in frames per second
  • Maximum shutter speed, in seconds
  • Video format: frame rate and bit depth
  • Stabilization, in CIPA stops
